Africa Trane and Nubian Lady by Keny Baron were the highlights. Considerring I "retired" from active perfroming 1.1.08, it was fun to get back out there. Tons of features. Records in MP3 mode or wave. Built in mics are great. I'm going to do a demo of the tone variations I can get with my Kent Armstrong MM pu wired Parallel/Series/single coil and post it when done. BTW did I say I love this pickup. 11 Tue, Jan 6, 5:16PM EST Luther Big g...I was given a Marcus Mller signatire series Fender over the holidays. Slaps pretty nice. I pulled out the old Grover Washington Jr. and David sanborn records to play along. 13 Wed, Jan 7, 8:31PM EST Rbacker Hey Big G! I got a tascam bass trainer CD gizmo that's a lot of fun. Other than that toys to install on the pickup. Teaching my daughter how to play now. Hope all is well with everybody. 14 Wed, Jan 7, 11:35PM EST Rbacker what's the trick to going back to older posts? things have changed.... 15 Thu, Jan 8, 11:10PM EST Rbacker G man, you going to be at Prospect Motors this Saturday? 16 Fri, Jan 9, 2:42AM EST lowlifer RB the chat has had a lot of spam, so Bassman has to clear it out. 17 Fri, Jan 9, 6:27AM EST Luther Hey everyone. Since we can't post links here anymore, you'll have to search it on google. 18 Fri, Jan 9, 11:09AM EST Rbacker Thanks Lowlifer. How's life treating you? Thought about you as we were driving to Hollister the other day. Hope the TFH is running well 19 Sat, Jan 10, 4:35PM EST big g Rbacker, wish I could be, but right now dealing with sciatic sp? problems. This economy is the pits. Prospect Motors here over 25 years and GM bailed on them? Wouldn't extend credit? Prospect was my best customer back in the early years of my delivery business. Single handly responsible for my early business survival. I hope the protest gets their attention! 20 Sat, Jan 10, 8:06PM EST Rbacker G- sorry to hear about the back problems! Saw the dealership deal on the news and thought about you guys. I play tomorrow at church and life has been much more entertaining since we lost our drummer. Guy was really good and allowed me to play more in the style I liked when the song permitted. Now I'm sole timekeeper which is more of a challenge. Hope all is well with the family. 21 Sun, Jan 11, 10:42PM EST Rbacker I got to play with the djimbe drums this morning. made me want to go all Regae on everything. Lot of fun though as does make for a different feel. Have a good week everybody and keep the strings ringing. 23 Sat, Jan 17, 12:46AM EST big g Speaking of strings ringing, anyone care to chime in on their favorite bass strings/gauges/brand? I like the tone of DR High beams, but they have a rough feeling wrap. I've got LaBella Hard Rocking steels on my Carvin 5 45-128 and the B string is very focused. Also I developed a liking of Hartke light gauge nickel strings on my 4 stringers too. Can anyone suggest a light touch flatwound other than TI's? 24 Sat, Jan 17, 5:40PM EST Luther big g...for my round wounds I still like D'Adarrio XL170's and fretless I like La Bella Deep Talkin' Flats. I have a softspot for Black Diamonds too, but I don't use them as much. 26 Fri, Jan 30, 10:14AM EST big g I put a set of Fender 50-95 SS flatwounds on the project bass yesterday. I was able to adjust the truss on my new neck perfectly for these strings, but even with the light gauge of these they still feel like steel bars. I do like the sound though after practicing with the band. I guess I'll have to redevelop some callouses. 27 Sun, Feb 15, 3:15PM EST Luther My band, Organimatic just posted a bunch of new recordings on our myspace page. I can't put links on this site so to hear them you'll need to go to www[dot]myspace[dot]com/organimatic. Give it a listen if you feel like it. MC 8 Wed, Feb 18, 11:19AM EST VaBass Hey fella's, Gerry here. I used to be a bassist called AzBass... I now live in Richmond, Virginia. My wife loves it back here, I got a great job offer, so we opted to bail on the Az Summers. The music scene here is pretty weak, although better than Az. It took, literally, years to get anything going on a regular basis out there. Good to be back at BWRC...again! Luther: Wow! The stuff on your myspace page sounds great. Down and Funky! 9 Wed, Feb 18, 9:19PM EST skiball hey! great to see all the regs back in here! stop in more often now that the stores is open.......peace....... 10 Wed, Feb 18, 9:21PM EST skiball btw.....ive switched back to plain ol boomers recently.....i love em. ans ive posted before .try d adario half wounds on a fretless....very warm 11 Thu, Feb 19, 0:17AM EST Luther Long live the BWRC... Gerry, Azbass, VaBass, thanks for the kind words. All you heard was live in the studio (for the most part) and a blast to do. I hope more of the "old guard" return to post here...especially one person from Wustah with some axes I still would like to get my hands on :-) 12 Thu, Feb 19, 9:51AM EST VaBass Good to be back. Luther: Cool stuff. It sounds like a blast to play. I just had a Christian P&W disc I played on released. It came out better than I had expected. The DJ sounds pretty growly in spots. Pretty simple, straight ahead, ballad type tracks. I am still using D'Addario Slow Wounds. I just like the way they feel, and sound. They are stainless with a nice blend of the mellowness you get from nickel mixed in. 13 Sat, Feb 21, 5:07PM EST Rbacker Boomers on the 4 strings, tapewounds on the fretless and D'Addario XL Nickel wound on the Ric. two set for $28 so not too bad. Church has me looking for drum kit as I have the most experience playing drums there right now. Little bit spooky as it's one of those a little knowledge can be dangerous deals. Glad to see everybody here. Hope the economy is treating you all at least ok. Slow at my job. Keep the strings ringing. 14 Sun, Feb 22, 11:13AM EST VaBass Rbacker: Electronic drums work really well in a Church situation. They're a little easier to play and being able to select different patches for different sounds is really cool. You can dial up a big, powerful kit, or just bongos and triangles if you need it. The big thing is you can control the volume. The biggest complaint I've heard from folks is the drums are too loud for Church. Might wanna see if you can find a good used electronic kit if you have the budget. 15 Tue, Feb 24, 9:01PM EST johnronni HI all, where i download drivers for Dialta CF2002? this is wery important for me, please hlp If I wrote is not in the correct section, please move to the appropriate section. sorry my bad english, i use translator 16 Wed, Mar 4, 11:39PM EST Rbacker VAbass, thanks for the tip! Old church had a roland set that was a ton of fun to play. I would sit in with the youth band and try and keep my son slowed down when he played bass. we're in a good size room (Davis High Theater) with good acoustics so a kit is good and they're cheaper. Off to practice. Gary willis has me way confused. Have a good one y'all. 17 Tue, Mar 17, 5:52PM EST JohnnieA Hey everyone! 18 Tue, Mar 17, 7:10PM EST Luther still alive and kickin' Go BWRC 19 Thu, Mar 19, 6:33PM EST naXUnalfstits Hi, cool site, good writing ;) 20 Sun, Mar 22, 6:08PM EST Rbacker New leader this morning. plays guitar and sings. I'm very happy with the whole deal. Hope all is well with everybody here. take care and keep the strings ringing. 21 Sun, Apr 12, 11:13AM EST Luther Happy Easter folks. I jammed with some younger guys last night who really inspired me. Great groove and stretching out. Spring is in the air, I can feel it. 22 Wed, Apr 15, 9:56PM EST Rbacker yeah, Happy Easter all!! Big set on Sunday morning. Hope all is well. Getting some direction from the new leader which is a switch for me. Having a hard time understanding what exactly he's looking for. Good to be challenged though. Take care and keep the strings ringing. 23 Tue, Apr 28, 0:47AM EST evelinamob A good way eh? Would you like more of my dry sister I have a nice joke for you) Where does all the pepper go? No one nose. 24 Tue, Apr 28, 1:16AM EST skiball lost my job..........anyone need a bassplayer?.......oh yea,you are bass players 25 Wed, Apr 29, 2:49PM EST VaBass Lost mine, too Ski... hang in there brother. I'm going back to school. I've been screwed 2x by the semiconductor industry. My engineering degree gets me squat these days. I'm gonna be a teacher! 26 Mon, May 4, 1:09AM EST JohnnieA Yep, put me on that list. After 31 years with "the Company" my engineering position goes to some kid in India. Puts me in the To young to retire, to old to start a new career catagory. Still playing and building though. Corporate America SUCKS!! 27 Tue, May 5, 8:42AM EST VaBass Hey, John, sorry to hear about the job. Did you get a severance deal? It's just amazing how hard the Phoenix area has been slammed in the past couple of years. No jobs, housing market the worst in the Country. The job market out here is bleak, but the housing is stable. We just closed on the sale of the Az house yesterday. It was on the market for a year. Ended up selling it for $120K less than the original asking price. That's okay, though, The market out there was ridiculous! Home prices were way out of control. We sold ours for what we owed on it and we are happy...and lucky! Prices are still tanking. Virginia is a sweet place to live. Nice & quiet, green, and no triple digits! The humidity is a little up there, but MUCH more bearable than 6-7 months in the triple digits. 28 Tue, May 5, 8:44AM EST skiball hey VAbass..........just realived you were AZbass.....lol........sup dawg! 29 Wed, May 6, 6:34AM EST Luther Sorry to hear about your jobs guys. It's all got to turn around sometime soon. I'm not sure people are going to be "passive" if we go too much further down with respect to the economy. I just noticed gas priced creeping back up...just in time for a holiday travel weekend in a few weeks. 30 Thu, May 7, 10:53AM EST VaBass Hey Gerry, yes I did get a severance deal but only after I agreed to train my Indian buddy who was to take my job. Had to do what I had to do. Glad to read you are doing well in VA. Being born and raised in N.E. Ohio I know how the weather is back there. I guess I traded triple digits for single digits and no snow. I really don't miss the seasons or the green or the bugs or the humidity. It was and is a fair trade for us. Don't have to shovel sunshine as they say. The housing market here is still tanking however if one has a suitcase full of cash one could make a killing on the bank owned homes for sale. Million dollar homes are going for 2 to 300K in some areas. As for the topic, I'm now designing and building more traditional guitars. I call them 'Lightning Rods'. No basses right now, just all 6-string guitars. There seems to be a lot more guitars players than bass players in the instrument buying market these days. If you d like to see some pictures you can email me at sss_bass@hotmail.com. Later. Are you still in contact with Stu? 31 Thu, May 7, 10:53AM EST JohnnieA That was me above.... 32 Fri, May 8, 4:18PM EST Archer Hey yall, good to see the same crowd, yikes was that over 10 years ago ;) Still playing F Basses with Aguilar amps and Bag End cabs. Take care of your hands ;) 33 Sat, May 9, 3:42PM EST Hey Archer... Modulus basses, Ampeg amps and cabs here, although I have a nice BagEnd I use from time to time. I've got a bunch of gear, but the Ampeg stuff keeps me coming back for some reason. Love my Radial Bassbone as well. 34 Sun, May 10, 6:54AM EST Luther That was me. 35 Sun, May 10, 1:25PM EST skiball went back to peavey.......probass 500 . 410 tvx cab.......its all there 36 Mon, May 11, 8:50AM EST VaBass Ski: Yeah, Buddy. That's me. Moved from Az to Va. last year and lovin' it!.... John: Well, the way I look at it is it SERIOUSLY sucks that you have to throw away those years you dedicated to the Corporate World, I gave Motorola 15 years and had planned to stay but they decided otherwise for me, and 20,000 other employees in Az. alone. I'm really glad to hear you are still building. There really is a competitive, and healthy market for you out there. As for Va: Well, we aren't as far North as you were in Cleveland so Winter's are much more bearable. The wife is from Bowling Green and never wants to go back that far North. The hardest part to deal with out here is the humidity, but that's only a couple months, which for me is much easier to deal with than 6-7 months in the triple digits. The last time I talked with Stu he was enjoying a regular life playing the steady Cirque Du' Soliel gig up in San Fran. He was freshly married with a new baby and was digging working a regular sched and being home every evening. More recently, I see he is back with Satch. He is a better fit than Larue, IMHO. Larue kicks some serious arse, but isn't as innovative as Stu. Besides, as you and I know, Stu is just a really good, regular guy.... that happens to be a frikkin' monster on the Bass! :-) Larue should get back with Steve Morse. That was an excellent fit..... Luther/Archer: Yo' Fella's! You guys are playin' some serious gear there. I'm still playing Lakland and Eden, but my main gig for the last 5 years, or so have been Weber, Arches, and Sobell... Mandolins. I was doing pretty well gigging on Irish Traditional scene, and have started really digging the Old Time, Appalachian thing they got going here in Va. The hardcore Bluegrass stuff doesn't do anything for me, so I don't go there. Just Irish Trad and the evolution of that in the Old Time Americana stuff. Going back and forth from the 34-35" scale neck to 14-20" scale is fun! :-) 37 Tue, May 12, 11:26AM EST JohnnieA VaBass Yeah, that would be about the last time I spoke to Stu as well. His little girl must be in grade school by now. My little girl is a merchandiser for Universal Studios these days and lives in L.A. with her musician husband. She will be 30 this year! Very scary... Well, hang in there with the Irish Traditional stuff. Sounds like fun. I will be helping a buddy out by playing bass at a CD release gig at Borders in Peoria next weekend. Should be fun, and a chance to use one of my own designs in public. What a concept. Later. 38 Fri, May 15, 12:02AM EST JohnnieA "Wayman Tisdale has died at 44 after fighting cancer the past two years." One hell of a bass player as well. RIP Wayman. 39 Thu, May 21, 1:13PM EST VaBass John: Yeah, I heard he had passed. WAY too young. I didn't even know he was sick... A good story I have about Wayman: I had seen him a couple times at the Bass Place when he was playing for the Suns. Pretty quiet. Darn right humble for a sports star. Then, I saw him again after a Bela Fleck & the Flecktones show at the Scottsdale Center for the Arts. I think it was the same show you took your SSS bass down to show Victor. Anyway, it was after the show and I think he was waiting for Victor. Quite a few people were coming up to him asking about the Suns. He just kinda gave them short answers. I walked up and asked about a custom Fender Jazz I had seen him playing on a local TV show. He was all over it! We talked Bass for about 20 minutes. We would have kept jawing, but Victor came out and they took off. He was a really good kid. Not at all like some of the other super stars I've met. Great player in his own right, as well. Music was his first love. B'Ball paid the bills. R.I.P. Wayman! 40 Thu, Jun 11, 0:29AM EST ap-di help using online 41 Sun, Jun 14, 2:55PM EST big g Guys and gals, take care of your back. In Nov I was getting a couple of basses out my car and one of the handles broke while I was lifting it. When I bent over to catch it I heard a snap and both my legs gave out. An MRI shows my L 4,5 is herniated and sitting on my sciatic nerve. I have had to retire from work, but bass, not going to happen. Two weeks ago I filled in on a gig with a local bluesman, Wingnut Adams. I got offered the position. This guy is a consumate showman, killer harp and vocals, and I'm having a blast. Good meds are making it possible. Luther " I'm not sure people are going to be "passive". For the last year I heard the same thing as I was selling people all the ammunition they could carry. In just the last two weeks we have seen the beginning. Very scary. The worlds a mess but at least I have my bass. 42 Mon, Jun 15, 7:03AM EST Luther big g...I hear you about the back. I recently tried out two lightweight amps: the iAMP Pro from EA and a similar model from Genz Benz. While each weight about 8 or 9 lbs. and had a lot of power (600 watts at 8 ohm and 1200 watts at 4 ohm), these class D amps were lacking in the low end tone-wise at higher volumes unless you bought one of their companies cabinets (which seemed to get it a little better sounding). I liked them, but wasn't in love with their sound, despite all the "tone shaping" that was advertised. The Genz Benz, believe it or not, had more going on for my money. I'm not sure if it's just a class D thing or not, but there was no way to bridge these things in mono for use with one cab at 1200 watts unless you got a 4 ohm cab. Hopefully, the technology will improve in the near future where it's not all bout how loud they can get, but how great their tone gets, especially for the bottom end. I'm sticking with my Ampeg SVT-4 Pro for the time being. It sounded a lot better than both of the aforementioned amps. 43 Sun, Jun 21, 2:38PM EST JohnnieA "Happy Father's Day" to all you dads. 44 Mon, Jun 22, 2:58AM EST Tinaipsnaws 45 Fri, Jun 26, 2:15PM EST CocoChanels Who knows where the Internet is? This is the best! 46 Sat, Jul 4, 11:20AM EST Rbacker Greetings all! Sorry to hear about job and back problems. I'm in construction and we're doing ok (thank you Home Depot) but a lot of plants around here are giving product away to stay open. we make concrete block and bag products where I work. Been watching my back too but moving hay bales, basses, amps and sound equipment seems to be keeping me in good shape. my job will wreck my back before anything else does. Picked up a Victor Wooten DVD and it has really served to open up my playing a lot. I go direct to the house at church so I just have an Ampeg combi amp to hear myself. Y'all have a great 4th and good luck with the jobs, backs and whatnot!! Keep the strings ringing! 47 Mon, Jul 6, 10:00AM EST VaBass Ha! First post! We had friends from Az visiting and we went down to Colonial Williamsburg for the 4th. Watched a few of their historical recreations. The best one was General Lafayette inspecting the troops of the militia, then addressing the citizens before the march down to Yorktown to kick Cornwalis' arse. Fife & Drums, muskets, and cannons being shot off. VERY impressive. A great way to spend July 4th. Hope all had a great weekend! 48 Tue, Jul 28, 11:43AM EST scizzbo Based on that last post I'm going to agree completely. Got to go for now. Cheers Scizzbo 49 Tue, Jul 28, 3:22PM EST dumvedgeptige Hi folks! I just want to say hello to you all, and see you in next posts! cheers 50 Tue, Aug 4, 3:01PM EST brazilbass Hello, long time huh? Came back to ask you guys about pickups. Anyone has a good suggestion on Jazz bass replacement pickups? I recently got a Japanese Fender Jazz to be a workhorse, but it does not rival my seventies Jazz or the Rick... m looking for extra punch and growl, and I wonder if somebody here would say something different from "Seymour Duncan" or "Dimarzio".
